So it’s true that some huskies often have a wolf like appearance but thats about all there is when associating a Siberian Husky to a wolf. In fact, a husky is no closer to a wolf than a poodle or jack russel unless of course we are talking about a form of wolf hybrid breed. The two core breeds of husky, namely the Siberian (as per this site) or the Malumute are not related to a wolf, its just they share similar features, expressions or colouration as a wolf.
Your typical Siberian Husky (or Sibe as some call them) is around 20 to 24 inches in height weighing in around 16-28kg with the males being typically bigger than their female counterparts. Typically with blue eyes, a gorgeously soft double coat that comes in a range of colours and their distance facial markings make them look wolf like yet remain recognisable as their unique Siberian Husky breed.
It’s typically believed the Siberian Husky has origins dating back to the Chukchi tribe who from the eastern Siberian region who used them for pulling sleds on the hunt for any form of game across the huge vast Siberian regions.
A Siberian Husky, whilst having a wolf like appearance certainly goes in the opposite direction when it comes to temperament. A typical Siberian Husky will want to be friends with everyone showing unlimited levels of love, affection and playful antics for his people friends. For most this behaviour typically applies to other dogs but they do have a strong drive to hunt and seek prey, which is probably the only behavioural aspect they share with a wolf.
It is, as with most breeds of dogs, possible to cross them with a Wolf which would create a Wolf hybrid. These hybrids, whilst looking very similar to the animal the wolf is crossed with, often have a strong suspicion with humans, is unpredictable and certainly cannot cope with strangers. None of what you find on the MyPetHusky site has any relevance to a Wolf hybrid and we strongly discourage anyone taking this route unless they know what they are doing.
A Siberian Husky is an ideal way to get a loyal, caring, loving dog that has a lot of similarities in looks to a wolf without having the ownership, unpredictable issues associated with a wolf breed or wolf hybrid. Remember a wolf hybrid is not considered a domesticated animal, unlike a Siberian Husky who will be a great addition for the right family home.
